What are some good rock bands that not a lot of people know about?

The Pixies - Had the potential to become big.
The Strokes - Big in Europe.
The Fratellis, they have a couple well known songs, but no one i know really knows of them. the futureheads, veruca salt.
I like this band called the finalist, they sing a great song called Rain. Search it on you Tube if you are intrested.
Dream Theater, they are big without ever having a hit song but have a huge following.

Gazette is an awesome Japanese band (Visual Kei)
not many people here listen to it, but its one of the best bands in Japan (damn they’re so hot :3)
A band I recently found is Passenger. They have a really unique style and really interesting lyrics. I’m more into hard rock and metal, but I like these guys. You might too.
They aren’t a small local band, but they haven’t really gotten out there just yet. I got their CD and I’m pretty sure they’ll be super popular here in the US in a couple months.
Haha, funny how Dream Theater got mentioned so much. They were the first thing I thought of when I saw this question. They rock!
Switchfoot. They are doing well, but aren’t as popular as they deserve to be! The band has great guys and great music and they appeal to all audiences. I thought they were pretty well known until my neighbor said he had no clue they existed. I let him borrow my CD… and BAM. His new favorite band!

check them out on youtube or myspace. They’re awesome, yet not many people know of them. Glad I grew up in the midwest and have peeps in chicago. My fave songs of theirs: duty free, valentines day in juarez, janie doesn’t lie, its alright to die, when irish eyes are burning. Borders does carry some of their stuff.
The Kills are another really good band. I like wait, black balloon, the good ones, ura fever, love is a deserter
